School Mission

The mission of West Vernon Avenue Elementary School is to develop a professional learning environment where students, parents, and teachers collaborate to achieve high academic expectations in a safe, positive, and trusting learning community.

WELCOME TO 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR!

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff:

Welcome to 2017-18 new school year!

I am honored to start my fourth year as the principal at West Vernon Elementary School.  I am looking forward to working with you throughout the year to ensure the best possible education for every child.  Our collective goals and my personal goal is to give each student a strong foundation in the skills they will need to be college and career ready.  I want to instill a 100% graduation vision to all students and to reach this goal. Most importantly, you are a crucial component and partner in making this happen.

These are only a few ways in which you can help and contribute to our school-wide success this upcoming school year:

  1. Set a goal of 96% or better attendance: 0 absences, 0 tardies, and 0 early outs
  2. Collaborate with discipline strategies and apply at home/zero suspensions
  3. Frequently engage on a dialogue with teacher on student academic growth
  4. Become a parent volunteer when available (We need you!)
  5. Let your child read daily
  6. Celebrate academic successes
  7. Teach the 6B’s and Six Pillars of a good character at home/school
  8. Gain a 15% in both ELA and Math on 3rd-5th SBAC
  9. K-2 students reach 80% on Dibels by the end of the year
  10. Active and meaningful parent workshops throughout the year

Best wishes and let’s have a GREAT school year,

Dr. Frances E. Valadez, Principal
