USC - Troy Camp, SMASH, and Specialized Programs

USC Troy Camp Through SMASH (Student Mentoring and After School Help) USC Counselors help students with their homework, create art projects, and conduct science experiments. SMASH is held Monday through Friday at five different elementary schools.
West Vernon proudly partners with the USC Troy Camp Organization.  Students at West Vernon have an opportunity to attend the 1 week Troy Camp program as well as participate in year long events held at USC.  Our students also benefit from Troy Camp Counselors also provide Specialized Programming (SP) is a way for counselors to pass on their knowledge and passion about a subject, ranging from art and drama to literacy and science, by teaching a hour long, weekly class at West Vernon Elementary School.

Read 180 - Intervention Program

read180.jpg READ 180 is an intensive reading intervention program that helps educators confront the problem of adolescent illiteracy and special needs reading on multiple fronts, using technology, print, and professional development. 

READ 180 is proven to meet the needs of struggling readers whose reading achievement is below proficient level. The program directly addresses individual needs through differentiated instruction, adaptive and instructional software, high-interest literature, and direct instruction in reading, writing, and vocabulary skills.
